Agnes L. Colgan
Community Service Award

Formerly called the Shelley Krasnow Award, the name was changed to the Agnes L. Colgan Award at the Excellence in Business Awards Luncheon held in May, 2009. The name honors Agnes L. Colgan, devoted mother and philanthropist and the late wife of Senator Charles J. Colgan.

The Agnes L. Colgan Community Service Award is presented to one or more deserving nonprofit organizations for outstanding community service. A one thousand dollar check is presented to each recipient along with a plaque commemorating their service at the Chamber’s annual Community Showcase Luncheon held each February. The recipients’ names are inscribed on the Agnes L. ColganCommunity Service Award plaque that is permanently displayed at the Chamber office.

2010 Agnes L. Colgan Community Service Award

The Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce presented the first -ever  Agnes L. Colgan Community Service Awards to BEACON for Adult Literacy in the category of Arts and Education and The Joe 15 Team, Inc. in the category of Health and Human Services. Both organizations received a plaque and a check for $1,000. Their names will also be engraved on a permanent plaque which hangs in the Chamber main office.

The awards were presented by Todd Hewitt, Executive Vice President of Cardinal Bank, this year’s Agnes L. Colgan Community Service Awards sponsor at the annual Community Showcase Luncheon held on Tuesday, February 23rd at the newly renovated Best Western Battlefield Inn in Manassas. The luncheon was sponsored by Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC).

For the past two decades, the Greater Chamber has been presenting the awards annually to local nonprofit organizations in recognition for the service they provide to our community. This was the first year under the new name, Shelley Krasnow having previously been the name by which these awards were known.

The award was re-named in 2009 for Mrs. Agnes L. Colgan, the late wife of Senator Charles Colgan. She was well known locally as a philanthropist with a heart for those who are less fotunate.

The money for the award was raised by the Chamber’s Community Relations Committee at the Cuisine de Commerce Luncheon held every year in November.

The Community Showcase is one of the many benefits of membership in the

Prince William County–Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the luncheon is to highlight member nonprofits and the work they perform in the community. Not only are they offered free exhibit space at the event in which to distribute information about their organization and its mission, but their services are also highlighted to other businesses through the Agnes L. Colgan Community Service Award nomination and award process.
