Lapis Lazuli Beaded Necklace

Lapis Lazuli literally means “blue rock.” Veins of this rock are found in Italy, Mongolia, Chile, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States. Lapis Lazuli is composed of a highly variable mixture of the minerals lazurite, pyrite and calcite. The best Lapis Lazuli is uniformly deep blue in color and consists almost totally of Lazurite.

This Lapis Lazuli comes from Afghanistan where one of the oldest operating mines in the world is located, producing some of the most rare and highest quality of the “blue rock” for over 7,000 years.

Nearly impossible to obtain now due to the political climate in Afghanistan, this Lapis was purchased thirty years ago during more peaceful times.

This necklace of Lapis Lazuli or more accurately, Lazurite, contains 9mm round beads, strung and knotted on blue silk thread. It is 28 inches long, strung endless without a clasp. Simply slip it over your head and enjoy the elegant rich, deep blue look and feel of this beautiful natural stone.
