BUSINESS AFTER HOURS AT ANNABURG MANOR

Join fellow Chamber members for networking and socializing at the Business After Hours on Thursday, August 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at historic Annaburg Manor. Cocktails and refreshments will be offered in the mansion lobby with tours available of Annaburg Manor and Caton Merchant House for those interested. Valuable door prizes will be given away from local businesses. Come see what this community nursing and assisted living facility has to offer!

Join us for the Old Time Picnic on Saturday, September 23rd at the Mountain View Campground in Haymarket from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Admission prices for adults (ages 13 and up) are $22 by August 31st, or $25 after August 31st. Children ages 7 through 12 are $10, and ages 6 and under are free.

ADVANCED TICKET SALES ONLY through September 15th.

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS 

NEW BOOK CLUB BEGINNING

The Personal Growth Book Club at Borders Manassas, located at Parkridge Center off Sudley Road will be discussing books related to the business world. The next meeting is Thursday, September 14, at 7:30 p.m., and the title to be discussed is The Cashflow Quadrant, by Robert Kiyosaki. This book is a follow-up to Rich Dad, Poor Dad, which emphasizes the author's theories regarding personal finance. The moderator is Cynthia Huntington. BLOOD DRIVE

GIVE LIFE! The next American Red Cross Blood Drive in Manassas is Saturday, August 26th at All Saints Catholic Church from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., and at Trinity Episcopal Church from 8 a.m. until noon. Call 1-800-GIVE LIFE for more information.

PLAY GOLF, PLAY GAMES AND SUPPORT EDUCATION

"Golf Classic 2000" sponsored by the PWC Schools Education Foundation, is scheduled for August 24th at the beautiful Virginia Oaks Golf Club in Gainesville. The tournament is Captain's Choice with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. 
The cost per player of $150 includes golf and cart, meals, player gifts, awards ceremony and prizes. Tournament proceeds will be used to support teacher grants, cultural programs, student scholarships, professional development, school-to-work initiatives and other unique educational opportunities. 

If you are not a golfer, but would like to be involved, you may volunteer for registration, golf-cart driving, or special events. Or you can purchase tickets for the golf-ball drop and a chance to win round-trip airfare for two and a $1,000 shopping spree for Manassas Mall. SUMMERSOUNDS CONCERTS

Washington Scottish Pipe Band will perform with bagpipes and highland dancers on Saturday, August 26th at 6:30 p.m. Also at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 2nd, Labor Day weekend, the Prince William Symphony will perform the Phenomenal Pops. Mark your calendars for the Octoberfest atmosphere of Alte Kameraden at a special time of 6 p.m. on September 9th. All concerts are on the lawn of the Manassas Museum, and are free to the public, a gift from the City of Manassas.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS OPENINGS AVAILABLE

The Independence Empowerment Center, Inc. has vacancies on the Board of Directors. The IEC is looking for Board members with an interest in disability concerns and independent living philosophy in the local area. IEC serves the counties of Prince William and Fauquier, as well as the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. Meetings are the fourth Wednesday of the month t in Manassas. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Bill Ward for location and other information by phone/TTY-703-257-5400, Fax-703-257-5043, or e-mail [email protected].

The Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park Disability Services Board (DSB) is also in need of interested citizens from the City of Manassas to serve on our local Board. "EVENING UNDER THE STARS"

Dance under the stars! CASA is holding its annual "Evening Under the Stars" on September 9th from 8 p.m. until midnight. Entertainment includes Doc Scantlin Imperial Palms Orchestra featuring Chou-Chou & the Three Girlfriends. Taste local cuisine, attend live and silent auctions, or even win at the 50/50 raffles! 

Proceeds benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Neglected and Abused Children. Many sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available, and all levels of contribution are appreciated. Help abused and neglected children be heard! ASSOCIATES SEPTEMBER FORUM 
AN EVENING WITH PRESIDENT LINCOLN

Abraham Lincoln first came to Manassas in 1862, when he visited Union General Irvin McDowell, who had his headquarters at Liberia, now part of The Manassas Museum System. Lincoln "returns" to our City in the person of historical interpreter Phillip Chetwynd who will present An Evening with President Lincoln at the Associates third 2000 Forum. Mr. Chetwynd has interpreted Lincoln for over 12 years, making some 40 appearances annually. Come and experience his first person portrayal that captures the personality and dignity of America's 16th President. 

The Lincoln Forum will be Thursday, September 14 at 7:30 PM in the Council Chambers at Manassas City Hall. Admission is free to members of the Associates. Non-member fee is $10.
