The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. Receives The 2002 Shelley Krasnow Community Service Award!!! Chamber of Commerce honors a not-for-profit organization for its service to the community; on February 26, 2002, at the 13th Annual Community Showcase Luncheon, the Shelley Krasnow Community Service Award was given to The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. The mission of The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. is to provide opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities to achieve their greatest potential for growth and independence.

The impact of The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. is that their programs and support services have benefited people with mental retardation and their families in the Prince William County community for 37 years. Symbolically, the Arc provides the bridge for people with developmental disabilities and their families to begin a defined journey of learning, living and ultimately be integrated into societys everyday living; a process that most of us take for granted. The Arc mission of commitment to citizens of Prince William County with developmental disabilities to achieve their greatest potential for growth and independence has provided a viable and necessary alternative to institutionalization. The two-day care centers are of major importance to working families that have children with disabilities. The families of sixty children now enrolled in the two-day care centers know that their children are being provided licensed, professional care while they earn a paycheck to support their child or children with disabilities. The Arcs Recreational Services provide opportunities for physical exercise, skills enhancement, team play, and most important, a social environment to make lasting friends. Through the Arcs Vocational Services, citizens become contributing members of society as a whole. In particular they become fully integrated members of Prince William County earning a paycheck, purchasing goods and services and paying taxes. The Arc provides the environment for people with disabilities to learn, to develop and to grow. The Arc continues to play a key role in supporting people with disabilities with access to education, jobs and even housing.
