Chamber Information

Tips on Writing Effective Press Releases

Knowing how to get your organization's information publicized can mean the difference between success or failure for many new businesses and organizations. To help you along, one tip on writing effective press releases will be included in the next several issues of What's Happening. For the complete list, visit the Chamber web site at www.pwcgmcc.org.

TIP #3:"Focus on the Basics." Who, What, Where, When, How... are the basics needed to proceed with publishing a release. You may know where your event takes place, or where a committee meets regularly, but the reader often doesn't. If a meeting place is to be determined, say so in the release and include contact information. This saves everyone time on follow-up. Make the date, place and time BIG AND BOLD, rather than hiding it in the text. If promoting committee membership or event, include a brief sentence on the main reason "Why" a member should join or attend. Clearly designate your name, phone number and e-mail address as press contact for any follow-up that may be needed.

Lights, Camera, Action... Business and Beyond Hits the Airwaves!

Business and Beyond, the 30-minute Chamber television show done in conjunction with Comcast, will air each Sunday at 9:00 p.m. starting on October 8, 2000. In Prince William County, you can view the show on channel 29 on the eastern end and channel 39 on the western end. Don't miss this show full of business tips, advice and information about your Chamber of Commerce. If you are interested in getting involved with the show or providing a suggestion, please contact Poppie Bergere at the Chamber at 703-368-6600 ext. 15 or e-mail [email protected].

Please take note that the Chamber office will be closed Monday, October 9, 2000 in observance of Columbus Day.
