Tips on Writing Effective Press Releases

Knowing how to get your organization's information publicized can mean the difference between success or failure for many new businesses and organizations. To help you along, one tip on writing effective press releases will be included in the next several issues of What's Happening.

TIP #1 "Target Your Market." Send press releases that reflect the publications' current style, content, audience and geographic area. For example, the Chamber is interested in information on upcoming local member events, non-profit happenings, and bits of news or requests from Chamber committees. These items are often publicized in the bi-weekly broadcast fax/e-mail newsletter "What's Happening". On the other hand, employee promotions or honors, business moves, and less time sensitive news may be published in the News and Notes section of the bi-monthly newspaper "IN PRINT".

It is a good idea to read (and even reread) previous issues of publications in which you may want to publicize to get an idea of the style and content. If you are in immediate need of press release tips, you may check out the full article at www.pwcgmcc.org.  Just click on "Press Release Tips" and start writing!

Reminder: The deadline to submit information to be included in the next What's Happening is Wednesday, September 6th. The next issue will be distributed Friday, September 15th. If possible, please e-mail press releases or information to [email protected]. Thank you.
