The Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center (FAFC) is the region’s premier site for year-round recreational, educational, social and cultural programs and activities. The facility is designed to help you, your family, and the entire community achieve desired fitness goals. From beginner to experienced athlete, our programs, services and amenities are created with one focus: to lead you on the path to lifelong health and wellness. At Freedom we strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming, fun and respectful through friendly engagement, active listening, and demonstrating concern for those we serve.

Located on the Prince William campus of George Mason University, our state-of-the-art, 110,000 square foot facility offers a 50-meter competition pool; leisure pool with slide, vortex and specialty features, including a whirlpool and saunas; two-court gymnasium; indoor track; fitness complex with aerobics studio and expansive strength and cardiovascular training rooms; drop-in child care service; racquetball/wallyball courts; locker facilities and family locker rooms; and a full range of adult and youth programming, including summer and holiday break camps.

The EDGE opened on October 1st and replaces and expands upon almost a quarter of a century of experience of leadership and teambuilding programming previously operated by Mason at the Hemlock Overlook Center for Experiential Education. Programs are designed to meet the needs of university groups, schools (5th grade through high school), community groups and corporations. Learning will take place using a wide assortment of experiential activities and simulations including traditional low and high challenge course elements and our signature structures: The Alpine Tower and Total Team Challenge.

The Freedom Center is the result of an innovative joint partnership between George Mason University, Prince William County and the City of Manassas and has been heralded as a national model for such endeavors. Freedom opened in September 1999 and remains one of the largest aquatic and fitness centers in the region.
